High school cross country: Thousand Oaks' record run ends with second place

Thousand Oaks High shattered the 19-year-old Division II boys' cross country team title record Saturday. It wasn't enough. In a reversal of finishes from last week's CIF-Southern Section final, Loyola won the Division II championship by setting the team title record and edging Thousand Oaks, 90-99, at the CIF State Championships on Saturday at Woodward Park. Jocelyn Coney burst through midfield and held her breath. Until the entire Ventura College women's soccer team could exhale. Coney's breakaway goal, set up by sophomore fullback Jessica Bowsman with four minutes to play, not only clinched the visiting Pirates' 1-0 victory over Santa Barbara City College on Tuesday afternoon at La Playa Stadium, it ensured the dynasty would reclaim its crown.
