@TO-Cal Stand Out hed:What big teeth you have' The last days of the dinosaurs' at wheeler gorge visitor center Just check out those chompers to realize why "dinosaur" comes from combining words that mean "terrible" and "lizard." The life-size model of a Tyrannosaurus rex skull pictured here is actually a piece of art, made of papier-mâché and painted to look fossilized like the real thing. Storyteller, teacher and artist Richard Wade created the skull, along with a replica of a 7-foot-tall brachiosaurus thigh bone and other fossil "props" that he'll show as part of his "The Last Days of the Dinosaurs" program at the Wheeler Gorge Visitor Center north of Ojai. Geared toward anyone older than 5, the program also will feature real fossils and a demonstration by Wade on how dinosaurs sounded. The program, to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at 17017 Maricopa Highway, will be outside the center; take a low-back chair to sit on. Admission is a $2 donation for youths 5 to 18 and free for kids under 5. For more information, call 640-9060 or visit http://www.lpforest.org/wheeler.
