For Westlake High's Class of 2008 valedictorian, getting a foot in the door of the toughest class in school was no sure bet. There was a prerequisite physiology course to complete, three letters of recommendation to acquire, an essay to finish and interview process with peers. Aislinn Smalling left her signature as one of the great Westlake High swimmers. The Princeton-bound swimmer was second in the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet in Long Beach in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 49.12 seconds) and third in the 500 freestyle (4:52.20). Full story »
