Senior citizen critical after Santa Paula hit-and-run

A Santa Paula woman who was severely injured in a hit-and-run crash in Santa Paula on Tuesday remained in critical condition Wednesday, police said.

Authorities responded about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. They found Raquel Fuerte, 58, in the bike lane on the north side of Santa Paula Street near Blanchard Avenue, said Senior Officer Scott Varner of the Santa Paula Police.

Fuerte was taken to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of head injuries, police said. She was listed in critical condition.

The vehicle that hit Fuerte was described as a newer model, dark-colored BMW, police said.

After the crash, the vehicle left, heading west, Varner said.

Police encourage anyone with information about the hit-and-run driver to call detectives at 525-4474 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.

I heard this lady passed away on Friday. Can the Star confirm this information?
