Youth sports sign-ups: January 6, 2009

SOFTBALL

PLEASANT VALLEY: The Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District will hold an adult softball manager’s information meeting for the upcoming spring league. All managers interested in entering a team are urged to attend. The meeting will take place Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Camarillo Community Center in Room 7, located at 1605 E. Burnley St., in Camarillo. The meeting will address the upcoming season information, dates of registration, and rule changes. All managers and players interested in the upcoming season should attend. BASKETBALL

FUNDRAISER BARBECUE: The Ventura college men’s and women’s basketball teams along with the Ventura Breakers youth basketball club will host the 10th annual fundraiser barbecue dinner and game on Jan. 17. The Pirate men will play at 5 p.m. and the women will play at 7 p.m. against Moorpark. Dinner will be served from 3:30 to 7 p.m. The menu includes tri-tip and or chicken, chili, salad, bread and beverage. Cost for adult ticket is $12 in advance and $8 for children 12 and under. Tickets at the door are $15 and $10. Proceeds will be benefit Ventura College men’s and women’s basketball teams and the Ventura Breakers youth basketball club. CONDITIONING

NIKE CLASSES: Athletes will learn specialized techniques to develop proper sprinting and speed mechanics. Robert Steele will demonstrate sport specific drills to enhance strength, power, agility and quickness. Injury prevention and nutritional strategies will be discussed. Clinic is for all levels and sports. Sessions will be Sunday 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Agoura High track, 28545 W. Driver Ave., Agoura Hills. A $30 donation and RSVP required. Agoura High Track. 28545 W. BASEBALL

NORTHSIDE YOUTH: Northside Youth Baseball will be having sign-ups Wedsnesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Casa Lopez located at 325 S. A St., in Oxnard. Sign-ups will also be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. located at the snack bar at the Northside complex at Eastwood Park. Information: 760-2205.

CONDITIONING CAMP: Atomix Sports in association with Nike SPARQ Training present the 2009 baseball conditioning camp. Participants will receive professional instruction by certified Nike SPARQ master trainer Robert Steele. Camp will focus on developing a players speed, power, agility, reaction and quickness. Players will receive a free Nike SPARQ backpack and have an opportunity to receive an official SPARQ rating. Sessions will be at the Agoura High JV baseball field Saturdays 3 to 5 p.m., Jan. 17 to Feb. 21. Cost is $239 for ages 8 to 18. CAMARILLO PONY: Camarillo PONY Baseball registration is running through Saturday for players ages 5-19. All players ages 7-14 must attend the Skills Rating at the baseball fields at the corner of Temple and Ponderosa on the following dates: Jan. 10, 9 to 3 p.m. or Jan. 11, 11 to 3 p.m. Skills rating for players ages 15-19 is scheduled for Feb. 22, 1 to 3 p.m. Information: http://www.cpba.org or 388-0829.

UMPIRES NEEDED: Ventura Pony Baseball is seeking umpires for the 2009 season. Positions will be paid and training will be provided. Information: Steve Ledesma at 320-4071.

OCEAN VIEW: The Ocean View PONY League will accept registration on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ocean View Junior High fields. Registration will also take place Wednesday and Jan. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rusty’s Pizza, Doris Avenue and Ventura Road, Oxnard. Fees for 3-4-year-olds are $35, 5-6-year-olds ($45), 7-19-year-olds ($65). Refundable snack bar per player applies. Open to all of Ventura County players and no boundaries. BABE RUTH AND CAL RIPKEN LEAGUES: Simi Valley Baseball League registration for the Babe Ruth (13-18) Divisions and the Cal Ripken (4-12) Divisions for the 2009 Spring season will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 17-18 and 24-25 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Royal Avenue fields. Registration is open to all players living anywhere in Ventura County and the greater San Fernando Valley between the ages of 4-18. Birthdays as of April 30, 2009. The fields are located on Royal Avenue between Sequoia and Tapo Canyon. Manager/coach opportunities are available. Major Division plays on a mound 50 feet from home plate and bases 70 feet apart with leadoffs. Senior and Upper Level High School Prep for 13-15-year-old players play on the only full-size field, with the mound 60 feet from home and the bases 90 feet apart. CASINO NIGHT: Oxnard College will host its 10th annual Casino Night on Jan. 18 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Oxnard. The hall is located at 600 S. D St. Event hours will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with a sports auction and raffle of prizes. People can send donations (sports memorabilia) or attend the event. SHARKS TOURNAMENT: The Ventura County Sharks will host a Preseason Smash Tournament on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at Camino Real Park in Ventura. Divisions will be 7U, 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U. Information: 236-5964 or http://www.eteamz.com/vcsharks.

SIMI VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE: Simi Valley Little League will hold registration and tryouts on Saturday and Jan. 17, and 24 at Knolls Park Field, 1300 S. Katherine Road from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All youth ages 5-16 are welcome. Simi Valley Little League is the only “official Little League” in Simi Valley where “everyone plays.” A Challenger Division has been developed to include youth ages 5-18 with physical and/or mental disabilities. Tryouts are held for ages 7-16. T-Ball, Coach Pitch, Challengers, and returning Majors and Juniors from last spring do not tryout. Spring season starts March 7, 2009. Registration fees are: Challenger Division $75, T-Ball/ Coach Pitch Divisions $135, Farm/Minor/Major Divisions $165, Junior/Senior Divisions $190. MONTALVO LITTLE LEAGUE: Montalvo Little League will hold registration on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Jan. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m.; and Jan. 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration will be held at the Montalvo Little League snack bar. FOOTHILL LITTLE LEAGUE AND JUNIORS DIVISION: Foothill Little League and its Juniors Division will hold registration for spring baseball on Friday (6-9 p.m.), Saturday (9 a.m.-noon) and Jan. 14 (6-9 p.m.), all dates at Poinsettia Elementary School, 350 N. Victoria Ave. Fees are $95 per player for all divisions except T-Ball ($75 per player), with a $5 per player discount for second and each additional sibling in a family. Players must be 5 years old by April 30, 2009. Each player will need to provide a certified birth certificate (no copies), with three proofs of residency within the Foothill League boundaries and two checks. VENTURA PONY: The Ventura Coast PONY Baseball will be holding sign-ups on Saturday and Jan. 17, 24 and 31. All registration will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tryouts will be Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. Sign-ups and tryouts will be at De Anza Middle School, located off Ventura Avenue. Fees are Shetland (4-5-6-year-olds, $65) $65; Pinto (7-8, $75); Mustang (9-10, $95), Bronco (11-12, $95) Pony (13-14, $115). Players need to bring copy of birth certificate. NAVAL BASE: The Naval Base Ventura County Junior Baseball League, formerly CBC Junior Baseball, will hold registration today from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. at Sunkist Elementary, 1400 Teakwood in Port Hueneme (just off Ventura Road across from the base). MLK TOURNAMENT: Diamond Rock Baseball will host the Martin Luther King Jr. Tournament Jan. 17-19 at the Northside Youth Baseball complex. All games will be played between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Division are 9U to 18U. Cost $425, plus four Pony baseballs. Eight teams per division. RACQUETBALL

WINTER LEAGUE: The Ventura Family YMCA will host a winter adult racquetball league. Registration runs through Saturday. League fee is $20 for facility and program members ($30 annual program membership required). Beginner, intermediate, advanced, women’s and doubles divisions available.
