The Ventura County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday in the Hall of Administration at the County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave, Ventura. The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the swearing in of three supervisors elected or re-elected in 2008: Kathy Long, Steve Bennett and John Zaragoza. The board will also vote on a contract to install solar panels on the roofs of some county buildings, and it will discuss its annual audit and financial report.

Ventura County’s newest supervisor — the first new face representing the Oxnard area since the 1970s — will take the oath of office Tuesday as the county Board of Supervisors begins its 2009 calendar.

John Zaragoza, newly elected as 5th District Supervisor, is one of three supervisors who will be sworn in. The other two are Kathy Long and Steve Bennett, both of whom were re-elected in 2008.

Zaragoza beat eight-term Supervisor John Flynn in a November runoff. Flynn’s last day as a supervisor will be today, and on Tuesday, Zaragoza will open his office on the fourth floor of the County Government Center in Ventura.

Zaragoza said he’s hired two part-time and two full-time assistants to staff the office. The address is 800 S. Victoria Ave., and the phone number is 654-2613.

Zaragoza, a former Oxnard councilman, also plans to keep an office at Oxnard City Hall once a week, so he can be closer to his constituents. He’s been talking to the city about it and will probably open the office later this month, he said.

“I’m very honored to be sworn in,” Zaragoza said. “I believe the last Latino supervisor was Mr. (Adolfo) Camarillo, 102 years ago, so it’s quite an honor.”

His first task, he said, will be to meet with the heads of various county departments and visit government offices across the county.

After Zaragoza, Long and Bennett are sworn in Tuesday, the board will elect a chair and vice chair for 2009. The chairperson runs the meetings and works with County Executive Officer Marty Robinson on the weekly board agenda.

Supervisor Peter Foy chaired the board in 2008, with Bennett as vice chairman. If the board follows its typical custom of promoting the vice chair, Bennett will be the chairman for 2009.

Oxnard loses agaim. Mr Valium has won over John Flynn.
A few years ago there was an odor problem emanating from property the Regional sanitation District that was nauseating to the people on the South Bank of the river. Mr. Zaragoza was on the board of VSD.
Documents were obtained by a citizen and given to John Flynn. The documents stated clearly the operator of the facility knew they were the cause of the problem and put it in the documents that VSD was the cause of the problem and should stop blaming others for it.
John Flyn was finaly able to resolve the problem.
Mr. Zaragoza either did not read the documents or didn't care about the plight of the citizens of Oxnard that were being made ill from the fumes coming from that VSD facility on the Norh bank of the Santa Clara River.
And of course Mr. Zaragoza always went along with the Holy Trinity of the Oxnard City Council in creating more financial fiascos for the citizens of Oxnard. The one good thing that Mr. Zaragoza did in his tenure on the Oxnard Council was to ask Philip Molina to go public and inform the citizens of Oxnard the money losing situation of the golf course. Of course that was vigourously denied by the likes of Mr. Holden then councilman and now mayor.
It is clear the Oxnard is represented by the best elected officials that money can buy.
One only needs to look at the campaign contributions of the elected officials that represent Oxnard.
