Robbery prompts lockdowns at 3 schools

Three Camarillo schools were locked down Thursday afternoon after an armed robbery nearby, authorities said.

Police authorities and school officials decided to lock down Cornerstone Christian School, 1777 Arneill Road, shortly after a man with a gun robbed a check-cashing business a mile away, sheriff's Capt. Bill Ayub said.

The robbery was reported at Check Into Cash, 704 Arneill Road, about 1:15 p.m., Ayub said. No one was injured.

El Descanso School, 1099 Bedford Drive, and Monte Vista Middle School, 888 Lantana St., were also locked down.

Authorities searched the area for about an hour but did not locate the robber.

The schools were locked down as a precaution, Ayub said. There was never any indication that students were in danger, he said. The lockdown was lifted by the time classes ended.

Police asked anyone with information about the robbery to call them at 388-5100.

Hey, wanna tell us if he is caught or not?

If not, how about a description now?? I am sure the place had cameras, a picture would be even better!

Overkill. The robber wasn't interested in students. He/she was interested in $$.

Where is the description?

NowHearThis, We've had lock-downs too... you never know where the slim ball will hide.

I was in one of the schools during lockdown at the time.

Everyone who says that it wasnt a big deal, it was. Half the kids in school were on the phone with parents, and the others were scared to death.

its not that funny, and nobody should say the person is from oxnard, just because of a robbery. people who live in camarillo steal to, believe it or not. if you were'nt there. you wouldnt know.

And if the man/woman does turn out to be from oxnard, that isnt something to be put on the community. dont judge people just because of where they live.

nobody said anything about Oxnard, only you. So maybe you are thinking it in the back of your head. I personally think it does not matter where this person is from. Catch them and lock them up. Im glad they locked down the schools. You never know where they could have to hide. If i were a parent, i would be happy they did that. Better safe then sorry.

I agree that lockdowns are not overkill when an armed robber is at large. Nothing is more important than our children's safety.
