Web site to show football
Remember KADY-TV? Well, Channel 63 in Oxnard long ago turned into Spanish-language station KBEH. But the KADY name lives on with Internet video streaming.
New Media Partners Inc. has started KADYTV.com and as part of its venture plans to show Oaks Christian School home football games, starting a week from tonight with its game against Diamond Ranch.
Joe Buttitta, former California Angels TV announcer, and his son Joey will call the games. The elder Buttitta, now golf pro at Westlake Golf Course, was also the first sports director at the old KADY.
Among its other sports offerings, KADYTV.com also will show "The Muncie Report" with Chuck Muncie, former star running back for Cal and the San Diego Chargers.
KADYTV.com plans to show other Oaks Christian sporting events during the 2008-09 school year.
On the air and online: KVTA (1520 AM) and KKZZ (1400 AM) will air the Newbury Park-Camarillo high school football game tonight at 7. Three other games will be streamed at http://homefieldsports.com: Moorpark-Notre Dame, Santa Clara-Hueneme and Santa Barbara-Oxnard.
Ventura College's game against Antelope Valley will be on KVTA and KKZZ at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Blasts from the past: One thing NFL Network has going for it (if you can get it) is its respect for the past.
Next Thursday's episode of "America's Game: The Missing Rings" will feature the 1981 San Diego Chargers, which talks about their epic overtime playoff game with the Miami Dolphins and the "Freezer Bowl" playoff at Cincinnati, played in wind chill down to minus-59 degrees.
At 6 tonight, NFL Network will replay CBS' broadcast of the 1975 Dallas-Minnesota playoff game, known as the "Hail Mary" game for Roger Staubach's 50-yard winning touchdown pass to Drew Pearson with 24 seconds left. Staubach's description of the play as a "Hail Mary" was the first time the term had been used in relation to a desperation deep pass.
Other notes: FSN West and FSN Prime Ticket received three Los Angeles area Emmy awards at last Saturday's ceremony. The awards were for Sports Series ("Before the Bigs"), Sports Tease and Short Promo. Saturday's Georgia-South Carolina game will not only be CBS' SEC opener, but it will also mark the first time for the network to stream an SEC game online. It'll available free and live at CBSSports.com. Olympic champion sprinter Usain Bolt of Jamaica will make his first U.S. TV talk show appearance Wednesday on CBS' "Late Night with David Letterman." Michael Strahan, freshly retired from the NFL and now working on the "Fox NFL Sunday" pregame show, and NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson will be profiled on HBO's "Real Sports" at 10 p.m. Tuesday.
ESPN's "Monday Night Football" season-opening doubleheader this week produced the two largest cable TV audiences of 2008. The Vikings-Packers game earned at 9.3 rating and averaged 12.5 million viewers, the network said. The second game, featuring the Broncos-Raiders stinkeroo, brought in a 7.3 rating and an average of 9.7 million viewers. CBS' early NFL game — most saw Brett Favre's debut with the Jets against the Dolphins — had an 11.0 rating, up 24 percent from last season's 8.9. Those who were enthralled by BMX racing in the Olympics might want to catch the AST Dew Tour event on NBC this weekend at 11 a.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
