MOORPARK

Bingo Bash set at Civic Center

Moorpark Senior Citizens Inc. is hosting a fundraising bingo event from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Moorpark Civic Center, 799 Moorpark Ave.

Buy-in is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Buy-in includes 10 games, an all-you-can-eat dessert bar and coffee, tea and lemonade. The jackpot is $250. Participants must be 18 years and older.

Proceeds will benefit the Moorpark Active Adult Center.

OJAI

Exercise program offered Friday

A program designed to help inactive seniors improve their overall health and lifestyle is being introduced in Ojai through the combined efforts of SCAN Health Plan, Help of Ojai, and The Gables of Ojai.

The award-winning program, called Active Living Every Day (ALED), teaches seniors the skills needed to bring physical activity into their daily lives.

This initial session will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Help of Ojai, 111 W. Santa Ana St.

The class meets once a week for 14 weeks and is now forming. Participants should be 65 years or older and not regularly physically active.

The $40 program is being offered free to the first 20 qualified seniors. The full, 14-week commitment is required. Refreshments will be provided by The Gables of Ojai.

SIMI VALLEY

Community Games to begin Sept. 23

The Simi Valley Senior Center is sponsoring the Third Annual 50-Plus Simi Community Games, beginning with an opening ceremony at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 and ending with closing ceremonies and a barbecue Oct. 7.

Games during the two-week event will include basketball shooting, bingo, bunco, 8-ball pool, golf, horseshoes, shuffleboard, 1-mile fun walk, pickleball (modified paddle tennis), poker, indoor lawn bowling, pingpong and bridge.

Clinics will be available for some games.

Commemorative T-shirts will be given to all participants.

Registration packets and a list of daily scheduled events are available at the front desk, 3900 Avenida Simi.

Council on Aging meets today

The Simi Valley Council on Aging is meeting at 1 p.m. today at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi.

The Council On Aging serves as an advocate to support programs and services providing seniors with maximum independence, safety and quality of life.

Seniors are encouraged to attend and provide input.

THOUSAND OAKS

Activities available at Goebel center

The Goebel Senior Adult Center sponsors many activities and programs, including Line Dance Practice from noon to 1 p.m. and Sign Language Class from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. every Wednesday. For more information on all recreational activities available, call 381-2744.

VENTURA

Weekly walking program available

Community Memorial Hospital's HeartAware program is offering a walking fitness program from 5 to 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday and 8:30 to 10 a.m. every Thursday, at Ventura Community Park.

The public is invited to participate in this free weekly course. Blood pressure and weight monitoring are available at sign-in, and a registered nurse joins participants on the walks to motivate them and assess their condition, if needed.

Ventura Community Park is at the corner of Telephone and Kimball roads.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE

Church forms new senior group

St. Jude's Catholic Church in Westlake Village has formed a senior group called "Ancient Scriptures."

They will meet at 1 p.m. the third Monday of every month in the Parish Hall, 32032 Lindero Canyon Road.

The next meeting is Sept. 22.

Programs will include speakers, games, trips and socials.
