Garden of Knowledge fundraiser Saturday

Guests at the Garden of Knowledge, the Ojai Education Foundation's annual fundraiser, will get to see how well they do with the same interactive science lessons teachers use with seventh-grade students.
The teachers will invite guests to construct a replica of the largest organic molecule found in the human body, a strand of DNA.
In another activity called Crazy Traits, guests will use the rules of heredity to create creatures with specific traits. The creatures will then be used in a "Survival of the Fittest" game to see which one is best adapted to given environmental conditions.
This year's benefit, which is to take place at an Ojai Valley estate, also will include a demonstration of open air painting by James Menzel-Joseph and a pottery wheel demonstration by Edward Morgan. A silent art auction will include paintings, sculpture and jewelry by Ojai artists, and several art works will be raffled. Nordhoff High's dance and music departments will entertain.
The Garden of Knowledge is set for 3:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $100 and include hors d'oeuvres. To purchase tickets and get directions to the event, call 669-3075 or visit http://www.ojaief.org. All proceeds will be used to fund public school programs that enhance education.
