Letter campaign will address human rights

Members of the Ventura County chapter of Amnesty International will conduct a letter-writing event Sept. 20 on behalf of people around the globe whose human rights have been abused.

This is the 18th year that Amnesty International has written letters on behalf of people who are the victims of death and torture threats, incommunicado detention, and the severe restriction of grants for political asylum.

The Write-A-Thon will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at College United Methodist Church, 4300 Telegraph Road, Ventura. It is open to anyone who is interested in helping the cause that has resulted in an estimated 3,900 letters being written in the past 17 years.

For further information, call Bob Gips at 643-6605 or John Ramirez at 483-7953.
