Bobcat in tree being left alone

A bobcat was spotted in a tree near a home in Meiners Oaks Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Ventura County Sheriff deputies were called to the 900 block of Rice Road to deal with the animal, but after contacting California Department of Fish and Game they decided not to take it out of the tree.

Fish and Game officials, charged with preserving the state's wildlife, told them to just leave the cat alone and it would eventually climb out of the tree on its own.

Bobcats are native to North America and can grow to twice the size of an average house cat.

The cats are most active in the early evening and at dawn.

Last I heard, Meiners Oaks was somewhere between Ventura and Ojai. What's this article doing in the Oxnard Section of The Star? Can't any staff member properly read a map?

Is this really news? There was a crow on my roof this morning, a squirrel ran up a tree near my neighbors house. Huh?

Was the squirrel alone, or was there a big, dumb moose with him?

What?! You mean they didn't try to shoot it out of the tree only to find out it was the domesticated, declawed pet of some wild animal sanctuary owner? Maybe things are looking up for the animals who are being pushed out of their habitat by humans. BTW, since when is spotting a bobcat in a tree worthy of calling the Sheriff's Dept? Did the cat meow in a threatening manner? Was it vandalizing the tree? Good golly!!
