On hand for the check presentation at Royal High School were, from the left: Kristin Tignac, Bob LaBelle, and Ro Curry, Simi Valley Education Board members; Dr. Kathryn Scroggin, SVUSD Superintendant; Dan Houghton, principal at Royal; Bill Waxman, Director of Secondary Education at SVUSD; Shireen Knudsen and Allan C. Mann, Simi Valley Education Foundation board members; and Simi Valley Education Foundation Board President Kevin Underwood.
The Simi Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) presented a Matching School Fund check from the 2007-2008 school year to Royal High School in the amount of $35,244.00(that represents a $17,622.00 match from SVEF). The Matching School Fund program is one of the ways SVEF fundraising dollars go back into the Simi Valley Unified School District schools.
The Simi Valley Education Foundation will match up to $7.00 per student at each of the secondary schools in the Simi Valley Unified School District. The matching funds at Royal High School came from parent-involved fundraising events and not PTSA or other existing programs.
The Matching School Funds raised at Royal High School will go towards the purchase visual and wireless technology. This 21st century classroom technology is opening new horizons for expanding the learning process by engaging students through effective teaching, curriculum and technology.
The goal of the Matching School Funds Program is to stimulate greater parent involvement in the education process, expand the volunteer base at each school, and forge a lasting partnership between the Simi Valley Education Foundation, each school and the neighborhood it serves in order to develop additional programs at the school.
For more information on this program and other programs offered by the Simi Valley Education Foundation, please visit the SVEF website at www.svef.org or email: info@svef.org.
