Barbecue planned for police open house
The Simi Valley Police Foundation will be serving up barbecue and more at an open house Sept. 20 for the Simi Valley Police Department.
The occasion will mark the police station's 10th anniversary.
The event will include tours of the police station, a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new Simi Valley Police history display, K-9 demonstrations, Disaster Service Workers Team demonstration, Ventura County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad demonstration and Ventura County Fire Department rappelling demonstration.
In addition, there will be a special kids area, and the Crime Prevention Unit will be giving away bicycles and other prizes.
Attendees will have the opportunity to view SWAT equipment, a mobile command center, the STTOP Trailer and police vehicles.
"This will be a fun and informative event and a chance for our citizens to see firsthand how well-equipped and prepared our police department is," said Sharon Romano, president of the Simi Valley Police Foundation.
The event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the station, 3901 Alamo St.
