The Simi Valley Elks are celebrating their 35th year as an Elks Lodge this September. In their years of existence in Simi Valley, the Elks have been an active part of the community.
They have sponsored many groups, including Boy Scout troop 642. The Elks decided to plant a rose garden, 35 plants in all, to enhance the property and acknowledge their 35 years. The Boy Scouts volunteered to help with the project, and they sure did. They moved rocks, dug holes and planted the bushes.
Their lunch was provided by the Elks and after the planting was completed all the boys and their parents were treated to ice cream. After a hot afternoons hard work, this was a cool treat.
The Lodges Past Exalted Ruler, Mike Johnson, spearheaded this project. He was able to have lodge members donate all the rose bushes. What an addition to the Lodge to have all the beautiful colors of red, white and pink for all to see. It was also quite a sight to see all the Boy Scouts and their parents working so hard. The Elks all say Thank You to; Paul Witman, Peter Witman, Patrick DiTomaso, Dana Sigler, Michael Johnson, Chris Barnett, Julie Barnett, Parker Wismar, DLora Wismar, Rilla Sigler and Steve Corbett.
