Youth band concert to benefit family
Local youth bands will provide entertainment at a concert next month to benefit a family that is battling cancer.
The concert will be hosted at Simi Covenant Church from 3 to 8 p.m. Nov. 8. Admission is $5 per person.
The proceeds will go to the Hirschy-Maas family. Sara Hirschy, a physical therapist who has worked in the community for 10 years, is battling cancer. Hirschy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. It has spread to her brain and spinal cord and left her a paraplegic. She is at home under hospice care and needs financial assistance to hire an aide, pay medical bills and live the rest of her life to the fullest.
Hirschy's son Jared, a senior at Royal High School, will be among those performing at the concert. Her daughter Kylie, a student at Hillside Middle School, will serve as master of ceremonies.
Co-host for the event is Jason Dolley, who starred in the Disney Channel's movie "Minutemen" and the television series "Cory in the House."
Headliner for the concert is Rusted Metal, composed of members from Monocle Road and Third Gear. Rusted Metal is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m.
There are still time slots available for local youth bands that want to perform. Each band will perform a minimum of three to four songs, one of which must be spiritually based.
For information about performing, contact Michael Joslin at 404-7939 or Tammy Pugh at 701-8825.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance from the administrative office at Simi Covenant Church, 4610 Alamo St. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The office number is 526-8855.

God bless the family and Ms. Hirschy, and everyone working on this event. It's great to see a community come together for something like this.
