Puppet Show Celebrates Marine Life

Thousand Oaks Library is proud to present a wonderful family program from The Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grant R. Brimhall Library.

This fun and interesting Puppet Show is designed to help children learn about the ecology and history of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and National Park.

In the show a young girl envisions chatting with the wildlife in the Channel Islands and her dream comes true during her first visit to Anacapa Island where she talks to a crab, a lobster, a fish, a shark, a blue whale and a bald eagle. This program is great for families and a fun way to learn about the marine and island resources, cultural resources, marine habitats, and reasons why we all need to help protect the ocean.

A question and answer session will follow the puppet show headed by Rocio Lozano Knowlton, program coordinator for MERITO (Multicultural Education for Resource Issues Threatening Oceans) and the Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary.

The Marine Sanctuary will present another family program on Marine Mammals in May 2009 as well as a series of adult programs including one on Maritime Heritage featuring shipwrecks also in Spring 2009.
