2 women say they saw mountain lion

Two women reported seeing mountain lions in Ventura on Thursday, police said.

One woman said she saw the animal about 10 a.m. near Kalorama Drive and Summit Drive while she was out walking, said Sgt. Jack Richards, a spokesman for Ventura police.

The woman told police she spotted the lion on a nearby hillside, and it ran off into the brush after making eye contact with her.

Just under an hour later, a woman jogging at Arroyo Verde Park, 5005 Foothill Drive, reported seeing a bobcat or a mountain lion lying on the trail in front of her, Richards said.

Ventura police responded to the areas where the sightings were reported but didn't find big cats in either location.

Police asked that anyone who spots a mountain lion call 911.

If confronted by a mountain lion, people should face the animal, wave their arms and make noise, Richards said.

Great idea. We wouldn't want any mountain lions to miss out on a free meal because they didn't notice you!
