Small fire in Ventura

More from Breaking NewsFire department officials responded to a fire this afternoon near the east end of Leighton Drive in Ventura.
The fire was reported to be 3 acres about 4:45 p.m., and had grown to more than 5 acres in about an hour. Fire crews built a fireline and appear to have gotten a handle on the situation.
Firefighters from Ventura County, Ventura City, the Department of Forestry were fighting the blaze along with help from two Ventura County Sheriff's Department helicopters. Crews from the California Department of Corrections were also helping dig a line around the fire.
The fire started near the end of McFarlane Street off Highway 33 and burned on a steep hillside near a neighborhood west of Stanley Avenue. The fireline appeared to be about 70 yards from the homes.

this area burns evreytime we have this weather. Perhaps we can have the cops or firefighters or police voluteers patrol this area. Might save a boatload of overtime if we did.

Leaving work downtown Poli street I saw another unit & landmover arriving. Also closed roads up to Grants park.
