Suspected shoplifter arrested after assault

A suspected shoplifter was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon early this morning after he allegedly assaulted several people who tried to stop him from leaving a Ventura pharmacy, police said.

Matt Blair Oliver, 20, was arrested about 4 a.m. after he allegedly struck two CVS Pharmacy employees with a cane as they tried to stop him from leaving the store at 5900 Telegraph Road in Ventura, said Det. James Beautrow of the Ventura police.

The staff members who were struck suffered minor injuries, Beautrow said.

The scuffle ensued after store security observed Blair Oliver allegedly trying to steal items from the store, said the detective.

Was one of the items he's accused of stealing a cane, by any chance?

And here's his picture:

According to court records, this appears to be his first ADULT offense...let's hope he learns from it...also, gotta love his headline on his Myspace page, "Stoned as usual..." and it says right now he is, "stoned...as usual. is in your house stealing your pot... go look"

Ironic...hope the little jerk straightens up...

Wanna know what's sad? I work in the court system here in AZ and yesterday, I heard the "arraignment" of a guy who, to start with decided he didn't like the way we placed the chairs, so he felt it necessary to kick them out of the way...in front of the judge. Then I hear that he's charged with 3 counts of Domestic violence, one count of assault. Know what? No time served and no time to serve. He asked the judge how much time he was looking at and the judge said, "oh, you won't be spending any time in jail." My point? It's not just in CA, Ventura County specifically, where knuckleheads are being set free to repeat the crimes that land them in front of the judge. SAD, SAD, SAD!

Adam_Monroe ,Thanks for posting the photo. He actually looks really sucked up! I say meth addict. Pot makes you want to eat and it looks like this guy hasn't eaten in months!
He needs to change his headline to TWEEKED as usual.............
Hope at least he does some jail time and is sent to a half way house or something cause this guy has major problems! He better get help while he can. Even if its jail or prison time. And all his friends on his friend list look like druggies also. You can tell alot by thier screen name on myspace.
Hopefully everyone at the drug store is ok. At least there were more of them to hold him down.
