Police suspect man of robbing restaurant

A man suspected of robbing a Subway restaurant in Ventura on Saturday was arrested shortly after the incident.

Ventura Police said Michael Dragotto, 23, of Thousand Oaks, walked into a Subway in the 5700 block of Telephone Road at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday and acted like he had a gun in his pants. The clerk gave Dragotto cash, and he then fled the restaurant, police said.

When police searched the area, they found Dragotto in a nearby coffee shop. No gun was found. Dragotto was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

The Star printed the guys name, age and city. What was different with this story?

That he's not hispanic?

That the robbery occured in Ventura?

Whatup - maybe because they caught the guy, so the information was available. This is different from stories where they just have a description of a suspect.

Maybe cause it was released by the police becasue he is an adult and was actually caught so they had all the information from the press release the police put out...what does his race or the location of the crime have to do with it?

Within a few days of each other, per public records, this dude was arrested for a bunch of stuff, incouding DUI, hit and run and more by VCSD. What bothers me a bit is that the charges were dismissed. Our Sheriff's deputies don't make up the charges. What went wrong with our justice system here?

good job in catching this bonehead! I blame drugs, the parents, public school, the economy, the elections, you know the daily drill... How about personal responsibility? Doesn't exist any more...

What, are we now importing criminals from the Conejo Valley?

JayRemE: We should return the favor and export some our criminals to the Conejo Valley!

maybe he was just happy to see them.

jay, the cops DO lock them up for small crimes. it's the prosecutors and judges that let them go.

These thiefs need more than good county jail, send them to prison so bubba could steal their stuff and he could take care of them too.

Posted by smithjc on October 6, 2008 at 11:32 a.m. (Suggest removal)

ok, this loser's ventura county court history is:
2002, seat belt ticket, bail forfeit
2003, dui, plead guilty, did the usual...probation, fine, etc. then, the charge was expunged for whatever reason.
2003, drunk in public and resisting/delaying, etc
a peace officer. convicted and later expunged after probation.

i can't tell you WHY his record was expunged, but it was. the odd thing is, usually you can't get expungments with multiple violations. must know somebody.

They found him at a nearby coffee shop? What an idiot! Let's see, there's Latte 101, Peet's Coffee and the donut shop all right in that shopping center and then of course the local Starbucks just another center over. At least run far away.

The cops found him in a donut shop? Thats the last place to go to hide from the cops!

Posted by ReconByFire on October 6, 2008 at 6:57 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Glad his gun - if he actually had one - didn't misfire. He might have had to attempt the robbery half-c---ed.
Seriously... when was he released from jail (time and day)? Could the Subway have been his first stop after being released? It's kitty-corner from the government center (and jail). If he's from Thousand Oaks, he might not have had a way - or the funds - to get home, legally, that is. With his record, it wouldn't be surprising if he couldn't get a friend or family member to pick him up - they're probably all sick and tired of his crooked ways.

What a freak'n idiot. Maybe he decided to go to the coffee shop and have something to drink because the robbery made him thirsty.
