COMMUNITY COLLEGE MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

VENTURA 12TH AT BAKERSFIELD INVITATIONAL

At Bakersfield, Friday

Highlights: Ventura — Out of 36 teams competing in the 4-mile run, the Pirates finished 12th. Mark Martinez finished 16th out of 344 runners in a time of 21 minutes, 5.90 seconds. Daniel Berg was 60th in 21:58.90, Eddie Enriquez 72nd in 22:11.10, Jaime Castaneda 92nd in 22:27.10, Gabe Enriquez 113th in 22:41.00, Daniel Moon 205th in 24:54.90 and David Trejo 220th in 26:09.80.

Boys' cross country

Thousand Oaks wins title

At Pepperdine Invitational, 3 miles

Highlights: Thousand Oaks — The Lancers placed four runners in the top 10 to win the sweepstakes team title over Arcadia, 41-53. Kevin Joerger (15:33.40) and Sean Gildea (15:38) were third and fourth. Asher Lober (15:46) was seventh. Pacifica — Miguel Reyes (16:14) finished 15th. Buena — Santos Ahumada was 61st in 17:28. Oxnard — Gustavo Mena (16:24) placed 20th.

Tri-Valley League

At Malibu, 3 miles, Thursday

Team standings: Oak Park 19, Oaks Christian 56, Carpinteria 79, Fillmore 79, Malibu no score.

Highlights: Oak Park — James Goldstein was the individual winner in 16:14. Oak Park had seven of the top eight finishers. Gareth Morl (16:46) and Colin Rickard (17:25) were third and fourth. Oaks Christian — Charlie Petrie was second in 16:37. Hunter Hays (17:58) placed 10th. Fillmore — Miguel Ochoa (17:56) was ninth. Jose Sillas (18:24) was 12th.

Girls' cross country

Adams leads Lancers

At Pepperdine Invitational, 3 miles

Highlights: Thousand Oaks — In the large schools race, Rachael Adams (20:22) and Kalin Padberg (20:22) were 16th and 17th. Thousand Oaks was runner-up to Serrano, 55-131 Oxnard — Susan Espino was 37th in 21:17. Buena — Sherry Uchuion placed 45th in 21:29. Pacifica — Sahara Pena was 46th (21:29).

COMMUNITY COLLEGE MEN'S WATER POLO

GROSSMONT 15, VENTURA 9;

VENTURA 14, CUESTA 5

At Citrus Tournament

Highlights: Ventura — Mike Crowley scored five goals, three against Grossmont (with four assists) and two against Cuesta. Against Grossmont, Jeremy Allen scored two goals and goalie Lance Park had six saves. Against Cuesta, Tucker Zimmerman scored five goals, Tyler Pool scored two and Erik Brenner scored two. Park added 10 saves.

Record: Ventura 10-7.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE WOMEN'S WATER POLO

Ventura FINISHED third

At Ventura Tournament

Highlights: Ventura — The Lady Pirates won three of four games, beating L.A. Valley 14-11, Delta 17-11 and Santa Monica 16-2, while losing to Palomar 4-3. Roxy Hacock had three goals and four assists against L.A. Valley, and Alana Altmann had four goals, six drawn ejections and four assists. Against Palomar, Heather Webster had two goals and three steals. In the win against Delta, Bonny Bordwell had four goals and Emily Allen had three assists.

Record: Ventura 8-7.

Boys' Water Polo

Thousand Oaks places 21st

At Villa Park Classic

Highlights: Thousand Oaks — The Lancers had a 3-2 record in the tournament to place 21st. Thousand Oaks had wins Saturday over Canyon/Anaheim, 17-8, and Aliso Niguel, 17-8. Thousand Oaks is ranked No. 10 in Division IV.

Record: Thousand Oaks 9-5.

At Cal Lutheran

Highlights: Cal Lutheran — Despite 16 shots, eight on goal, the Kingsmen were unable to score and suffered their third conference loss of the season. Senior Josh Moskowitz managed seven shots. Sophomore Michael Zubach had four saves in the match, including an impressive stop on a penalty kick in the 55th minute.

Records: Redlands 6-4-1, 5-0-1 SCIAC; Cal Lutheran 5-6-0, 3-3-0.

Highlights: Cal Lutheran — Brittany Clark took a team-high three shots.

Highlights: Cal Lutheran — On Saturday, the Regals beat Pomona, 25-12, 25-14, 25-16. Junior Cori Hayes had match-high 14 kills. Senior Summer Plante-Newman added six kills to bring her career total to 1,045 — just 10 shy of the school record set by Sally Jahraus. She also recorded match highs of four aces and 13 digs. Senior Lindsey Benson had 30 assists and added four kills. Sophomores Megan Thorpe and Erin Exline each chipped in with six kills and senior Elicia Hildreth contributed 11 digs. On Friday, the Regals beat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 25-18, 25-17, 24-26, 25-15. Plante-Newman had 12 kills.

Record: Cal Lutheran 13-4, 5-1 SCIAC.
