Delight is in the details in striking marina home
An intoxicating Oxnard home goes the extra mile with fringe details for prestige and pampering.
Anyone who knows design will tell you, "the devil is in the details." Even if a house gets the big things right, it's the little things that affect everyday quality of life for the occupants. The listing at 4005 Romany Drive gets all of the details right including things that you may not even notice until they're pointed out. It is these details that form an integral part of the property as a whole.
According to Erik Moen of Re/Max Gold Coast, this property currently is owned by a couple who have been involved in real estate for decades. They know their stuff, and it shows.
The entire downstairs, with the exception of the maid's quarters, is tiled in travertine marble. The huge open kitchen features stainless steel Viking appliances, including two convection ovens, a plate warmer, a refrigerator and wine cooler. Even the stove hood is stainless steel. Sharing the downstairs with the kitchen is a large living area; these two areas together, with their view of the channel, form a perfect place for informal entertaining. The living area features a fireplace made of white stone from the famous Cliffs of Dover; standing close, you will see small seashells and other fossils in the stone.
Also downstairs, tucked away for privacy, is a formal dining area large enough for a table that seats 12. There also is a half-bathroom off the entryway.
At the front of the house, the maid's quarters is a comfortably carpeted area with its own full bathroom, featuring one of the black granite-topped vanities that be found throughout the house. This suite would serve perfectly as a guest room or another bedroom for family.
The second story is reached by a dramatic spiral staircase, made of mahogany and framed by a custom-built wrought iron railing.
There you will find a spacious entertainment room, with room for a large media center and plenty of armchairs. It's a perfect place to unwind and watch a movie or play some video games.
Two small bedrooms are upstairs are perfect for children. One has its own private full bathroom. There also a separate full bathroom between the two small bedrooms.
A large, doorless room can be used as a playroom, a computer room, a home office, or whatever else you can dream up for it. It, too, has an en-suite full bathroom.
The master suite is indeed, masterfully done. The bedroom and bathroom are separated by a travertine-tiled circular entryway. To the left, the bedroom offers plenty of space and a lovely view of the channel. On the right, the travertine-lined bathroom is as big as the bedroom and features a dual shower with body sprayers, a spa tub under a bank of semicircular windows, separate his-and-her sinks set in black granite vanities and an enormous walk-through closet that is virtually a room of its own.
All of these would be enough to make this house vastly appealing, but remember — it's all in the details. Erik Moen points out that there are no sharp edges in the house; all of them, from the corners of walls to the edges of the kitchen countertops, have been gracefully rounded.
Recessed lights have been installed throughout the house — 79 in all— each one in a stainless steel housing. This lighting alone, according to Moen, represents tens of thousands of dollars in customization. The whole house is wired with a speaker system, there are cable hookups throughout (including in the master bathroom) and there is a security system with a camera.
Thick windows keep out noise and wind and the doors are heavy and shut firmly to minimize drafts.
Out back, overlooking the 50-foot dock, the deck (which has a hot tub) is made of a weather resistant composite material and was assembled from underneath, so you don't see any bolts or screws.
Nearly every room upstairs has a balcony and there also is a laundry room on this level to eliminate the frustration of hauling loads of laundry up and down the stairs.
Even the placement of the house was taken into consideration; the rear faces southeast so as to allow the deck and dock area to remain unmolested by the blustery northwest wind that often blows in from the ocean and creates an occasional undesirable chop in other areas of the marina. Plus, since the house is located on the end of a cul-de-sac, it's quiet and benefits from extra parking.
The side channel the house is located on is wide, so you'll never feel like you're breathing down your neighbors' necks or that your own privacy is being compromised.
