Rescued boaters die at hospital

Two men hospitalized after they were pulled from the water off the Oxnard coast Tuesday have died, authorities said.

Wen Xiang Lu, 59, of El Monte, and Shao Shun Peng, 45, of Arcadia, were pronounced dead at St. John’s Regional Medical Center just after 4 p.m. Tuesday, said Michael Tellez, a deputy Ventura County medical examiner.

Rescue swimmers from the Oxnard Fire Department pulled Lu and Peng from the ocean after their boat capsized about 2:30 p.m. Both were in cardiac arrest by the time they were brought to shore, Oxnard Fire Department officials said.

A third man made it safely to shore on his own.

The boat appeared to be about 16 feet in length and may have been used as a fishing vessel, according to police.

No information was available on why the boat capsized.
