A reputed gang member pleaded not guilty Monday in Ventura County Superior Court to charges he shot to death and robbed an Oxnard businessman outside a bank in August.
Jeffrey Aguilar, 22, of Oxnard, entered his pleas in the capital-murder case before Judge Kevin McGee, who scheduled Aguilar's preliminary hearing for Dec. 9. The hearing will determine whether there is enough evidence for Aguilar to stand trial on the charges.
The District Attorney's Office has not yet determined whether to seek the death penalty against Aguilar, who remains in custody without bail.
Aguilar, whose reputed gang moniker is "Tripper," is charged with robbing and fatally shooting businessman Gurmohinder Singh, 55, on Aug. 16 outside the US Bank at 2385 N. Oxnard Blvd. in Oxnard.
Aguilar also is charged with two counts of attempted murder stemming from a shootout with police a week after the slaying.
Police said officers spotted Aguilar driving in Oxnard on Aug. 23, and when they tried to stop him, a shootout ensued in which Aguilar and officers fired shots that hit each other's vehicles. Neither Aguilar nor police were injured in the exchange of gunfire.
Aguilar escaped police but was captured without incident two days later at a hotel in the 5600 block of Carpinteria Avenue in Carpinteria.
Court records show that Aguilar has had several brushes with the law, including being placed on probation for possessing a controlled substance in 2005.
Aguilar has also been charged with disobeying the court-ordered Colonia Chiques gang injunction on Dec. 28, 2007.
Court records show that Aguilar denied being a gang member when an officer served him with the gang injunction legal papers on April 2, 2007.
"I am not a gang member," Aguilar told the officer, according to court records.

well, that's it, then. if aguilar told the officer that he's not a gang member, then he's not a gang member. nobody ever lies to the police.

Yo Tripper....you be tripp'n all the way to life without parole. Good riddance to bad rubbish....

Not only is he wasting our tax dollar by pleading innocent, but he is wasting valuable oxygen that could be used by someone more deserving. I am pretty sure I'm not alone in saying that we need to find a legal way to fast track the gang member to prison or death. They are a blight on society.

A too typical story we will hear more and more of. Dungheaps like 'Tripper' should all be taken out an summarily shot. The only good gangbanger is a dead one.

Surely you jest? If there was ever a case for instant death penalty this is it.

Yes, death penalty -- and put in that fast lane -- why waste more time and money on scum like this?? An eye for an eye (for those religious zealots actually opposed to the death penalty)... We should not keep "rewarding" our criminals with free room and board and medical care, etc.

Rather than calling it the "death penalty," why not allow for retroactive abortion up to the age of 30 for all of these types of critters? If you are found to be unworthy of living amongst the rest of us, we just "abort" you, no matter what "stage of life" you are currently living.

Retroactive abortion up to age 30?
now thats an idea!

Ok, this is NOT something I usually say or think about, BUT:
You guys ever see those grainy old execution videos from third world countries when they take out multiple criminals and line up against a wall or tie them to a pole and...
Well, nevermind. Just thinking of what this guy deserves.
:)

In memory of Mr. Singh, I really do hope Aguilar gets the punishment he deserves.
Aguilar, you were "trippin'" thinking you were gonna get away with this!

All of you are wrong. You don't even know Tripper. He was a good kid, loves his mom, and would never shoot at the cops or kill somebody.
Why do you always jump to judge a man?
Innocent until proven guilty?

There always has to be at least one (oxnard40) who has their blinders on and can't see the forest because there are too many trees! HE SHOT AT THE POLICE! The Oxnard police have no reason to lie about being shot at! HIS PICTURE WAS ON THE SECURITY CAMERA! How can he deny what he did? Oxnard40, wake up and smell the coffee. We don't judge Men quickly, but tripper is not a Man. He is an animal!

Was oxnard40 speaking sarcastically?
I hope so.

Relvd98... I just wanted to be that guy.
Tripper can burn in hell!!! I hope that he gets put in a very dark cell for a very long time.

Oxnard40.... huh? Did you know him?? Anyhow, if he did do those crimes then i do believe he should pay for what he did.

Lets see if I'm still batting a thousand with the bangers that are featured on these pages almost daily. I'd bet that this murderer has a "breeder" someplace in Oxnard and that somebody will come forward to say that he is a wonderful father to his child or children.

We need to weed the gene pool of scumbag/oxygen thieves like this. Far too much time and money is wasted on providing these morons their rights
I say let's give them their rights to a new life on a different planet.

Deal Tripper... Good luck with your new friends behind bars AND you'll fit right in since everyone in jail is NOT GUILTY just like you! LOSER!

Unfortunately, unless this FOOL gets the death penalty, he'll merely hone his skills in prison...and learn to "put in work" while behind bars. It's kinda like going away to college for gangmembers.

"I am not a Gang Member"?!?!?!?!?!
Is the pope no longer catholic?

Just goes to show you that these young gangbangers, punks, losers, etc think that they can do what they want, get away with it, and not get caught. They have no respect for anybody because they probably weren't taught "respect." Why do i get the feeling this punk didnt get a good old fashion azz whooping by his parents when he deserved it? Hopefully he'll get one of "those" by Bubba in jail.

missred805--the Pope is no longer Polish, as of a few years ago.
p_j46--reform? after the horses are out of the barn? a little (or a lot) late pal...

I was trying to figure out what a TUG was...:~).
For the sake of the victim's family, I hope that this doesn't drag out. Innocent until proven guilty but how many innocent people shoot at police and then go and hide in a motel in another city?
Let's just do the gang-banger math on that one...

i can't wait til dec 9. today is 3 months since he was arrested. i guess the prosecution team really needs the extra 2 weeks to gather more evidence. and the d.a.'s office hasn't determined to seek the death penalty? again, there must not be enough evidence, right? i'm not saying the man is innocent but for now he is. meanwhile, the real scumbags might still be roaming the 805.
i heard jeffrey wasn't even involved in the shooting with the police, it was someone else driving his car. and these officers received a special medal for being involved in that shootout? they are part of the elite oxnard swat team? how about sending them back to the academy to learn how to shoot a guys legs out, at least.
i guess i watch too many csi episodes. i bet he's just a scapegoat to try to put everyone at ease about a heartless murder. on the other side, if i was facing life in prison and possibly the death penalty, i'd probably plead not guilty as well. "it wasn't me. prove it!" it's not like he can plea bargain for a lesser sentence. you either robbed and killed a man, and "attempted to murder" two officers, or you didn't. plain and simple. i am not ready to commend the opd and swat team until the jury finds this man guilty without a reasonable doubt.
