FOUR NORTH OXNARD TEAMS ADVANCE
PYFl playoffs
The North Oxnard Warriors hosted six games at Oxnard High on Saturday. Four teams move on to the quarterfinals of the playoffs. In the Peewee Division, the third-seeded North Oxnard White defeated Camarillo 6-0. North Oxnard Red lost to the No. 2 seed Ventura 14-8 to finish the season 5-5. North Oxnard White will play Ventura on Saturday. In the Bantam Division, North Oxnard had three undefeated teams playing. The top-seeded North Oxnard Red defeated Thousand Oaks Black 34-0 and the fourth-seeded North Oxnard Black defeated Ventura White 22-0. The two North Oxnard teams will face off against each other on Saturday. The No. 3 seed North Oxnard Gray lost to a tough Camarillo Silver team 22-0. North Oxnard Gray finished the season at 9-1. In the Midget Division, the North Oxnard Warriors lost on the road to Newbury Park 24-0 to finish at 5-5. In the Junior Division, the undefeated No. 1 seed North Oxnard Red defeated Canyon Gold 42-14 and will play Ventura Black. The North Oxnard Senior team lost to Thousand Oaks White 44-18. The Warriors finished the season at 6-3. In the PYFL Jim Thornton Invitational, the North Oxnard Junior White advanced to the semifinals by beating Ventura White 6-0. CAMARILLO ROADRUNNERS SILVER 28, NORTH OXNARD WARRIORS GRAY 0
PYFL Bantam Division
Highlights: Camarillo — The Roadrunners received strong running from Brett Herron with two touchdown runs, Colby Stevens with a touchdown run and Eddie Guerrero scored on a quarterback sneak. P.J. Blair and Javon Mills added to the strong running attack. The defense continued with its string of shutouts with help from Shane Anderson's fumble recovery and Guerrero's interception.Collins Frovarp recovered an onside kick to key a strong effort by special teams.
Record: Camarillo 8-2.
WESTLAKE WARRIORS BLUE 38, VALLEY PANTHERS 20
GCYFL Bantam Division
Highlights: Westlake — The Braves continued their winning ways by defeating the Panthers, a division leader, in the second round of playoffs at Crespi High in Encino. It was a wild fourth quarter as the two teams combined for seven scores. Westlake's offense was a led by a number of standouts with 345 yards rushing. John Deluca had 11 carries for 235 yards with two touchdowns (78 and 58 yards). Adam Kerner had four touches for 15 yards. Chase Jasmin carried the ball 15 times for 95 yards with four touchdowns. Jasmin scored on runs of 5 and 3 yards, plus an 80-yard kickoff return and a 54-yard interception return. Defensively, Westlake intercepted Valley three times. Eric Schiffer, Nick Juels and Chase Jasmin came down with the interceptions. Westlake's defense was led by Adam Kerner, Chase Jasmin, John Deluca, Michael Erhart, Cameron Trimble and Danny Redell.
MOORPARK SAINTS 6, NEWBURY PARK STEELERS 0
PYFL Peewee Division
Highlights: Moorpark — The Saints won a second-round playoff game. The Saints celebrated their first Peewee Division playoff victory in program history. The Saints (7-2) recorded their fourth shutout. Playing well on defense was Patrick Daniels, Nicholas Walsh, Michael Boggess, Nathan Torres, Marcus McCoy, Jason Fernandez and Anthony Perez. With 30 seconds left in the game, Marcus McCoy raced 50 yards for a touchdown. James Hoffman, Jason Obreiter and Nathan Torres played well on offense. Moorpark faces the Thousand Oaks Titans (9-1) in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Offensive player of the week honors went to Anthony Perez and Spencer Hembre. The Saints defense earned player of the game honors.
CAMARILLO COUGARS GOLD 28, FILLMORE RAIDERS SILVER 16
GCYFL Mighty Mite Division
Highlights: Camarillo — The Cougars roared to a quarterfinal victory over the Fillmore Raiders 28-16 at Rio Mesa. The Cougars pounded out 352 yards behind a relentless offensive line led by Gabriel Colon, Andrew Antonio, Devin Long, Cole Holland, Brycen Thorton and Tristan Arenzana. Kamren Fabiculanan rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns (45 and 20 yards). Jayden Rogers was the workhorse once again rushing for 203 yards on 13 carries. Rogers had touchdown runs of 57 and 30 yards. The Cougars defense shut Fillmore down in the second half to take control of the game. Leading the way on defense were linebackers Austin Hill with 10 tackles and Noah De Anda with nine, respectively. Other standouts on defense were Fabiculanan, Aidan Garza, Dylan Rushe, Caleb Cogswell, Justus Tinoco and Ryon Seekins. The Cougars (8-3) will play the Westlake Braves in the semifinals on Saturday.
CAMARILLO COUGARS BLACK 22, FILLMORE RAIDERS BLACK 20
GCYFL Bantam Division
Highlights: Camarillo — The Cougars used a team effort to pull off a come-from-behind win to advance the semifinals. All 18 players contributed to the victory, highlighted by Jack Barrios, who rushed for three touchdowns and made several solo tackles. Quarterback Steven Marin was a strong leader and Mason Harvey had several long runs for first downs to set up the scores. Trevor Mason, Ethan Rodriguez and Andrew Ortiz contributed with standout plays as receivers and running backs. The offensive line blocked well, led by Tim Benich, George Stern, Kevin Muklevicz, Nick Vasquez and captain Jared Oseguera. Defensive standouts included Jacob Jamelkowski, Ramon Roman, Wyatt Zambri, Zach Gregson, Joe Maulhardt and David Urrea, all with solo tackles and assists. Brett Triebold ended the game with a key quarterback sack for a 10-yard loss.
WESTLAKE BRAVES 41, CAMARILLO COUGARS BLACK 0
GCYFL Senior Division
Highlights: Camarillo — The top-seeded and undefeated Braves ended the Cougars season. The Cougars played with a lot of heart, but couldn't find a way to stop the Braves offense or penetrate their stingy defense. The Cougars roster was comprised of 26 players from every walk of life, including 16 players that had no previous football experience. They learned how to work hard all season and how to play as a team. The majority of the players will be moving onto high school in 2009. The coaching staff made it a fun season. The Braves are one win away from playing in the Dec. 6 Super Bowl at Royal High.
