Sparks of Love toy drive opens Sunday

More from County NewsVentura County Fire Department's fire stations will be the drop-off points for new, unwrapped toys, sporting goods and educational supplies for the annual Firefighters Sparks of Love Toy Drive.
The drive will run through Dec. 24. The Ventura County Children's Service Auxiliary will distribute the items collected to those in need in Ventura County.
The Metrolink Spark of Love Holiday Train Express will make its first stop at 5 p.m. Sunday in Simi Valley. The train, decorated with 50,000 lights, also will stop in four other communities on Dec. 14.
Fire apparatus will be on display at all stops, and firefighters will greet people. The public also can take their donations to the train.
The Dec. 14 stops include Montalvo, 5 to 5:30 p.m.; Oxnard, 5:45 to 6:15 p.m.; Camarillo, 6:30 to 7 p.m.; and Moorpark, 7:30 to 8 p.m.
Last year, 9,000 court-dependent children and children of low-income families in Ventura County received more than 34,000 gifts through the program.
