Sewage spill caused by broken line

About 600 gallons of raw sewage spilled Friday onto a seaside road about a quarter-mile south of Hobson County Park, authorities said.

The spill, caused by a break in a main sewage pipe, was reported about 10 a.m., according to the county Environmental Health Division. Workers had the site cleaned up by 2 p.m.

The sewage spilled onto the roadway and surrounding area, located on the coast about 10 miles northwest of Ventura. The ocean was not affected, authorities said.

Workers posted warning signs around the spill, urging the public to stay away from the affected area for 72 hours.
