Concerts coming up

@TO-Cal Stand Out hed:Feelin' alright
Dave Mason in concert, Port HuENEME
Even though it's been more than 40 years since Dave Mason first raced into rock's fast lane with the band Traffic, the singer-guitarist's career shows no signs of slowing down.
"What else would I do?," asks Mason, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "I'm not going to play golf. I'm not going to retire. I have to be doing something."
Of late, that's included recording a new album, "26 Letters ~ 12 Notes," his first full-length collection of new music in more than 20 years. It was released last month.
Mason's been working on it off and on for the past six years. It was recorded at his Ojai home and studios in Miami and Detroit. Mason wrote or co-wrote half of the 12 songs. Willie Nelson appears on "How Do I Get to Heaven?" and ex-Prince drummer Sheila E. adds percussion power to "That's Love." Asked to define its vibe, Mason replied with a wide grin: "It sounds like a great Dave Mason album."
Mason will mix Traffic classics, solo hits like "Feelin' Alright" and tunes from the new CD when he performs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Oceanview Pavilion, 575 E. Surfside Drive, Port Hueneme. For tickets, $30-$50, call 986-4818 or visit http://www.howardpresents.com. For more information on Mason, visit http://www.dave-mason.com.
