Health agency gets grant for homeless
The Ventura County Health Care Agency has received a $245,000 federal grant for its Healthcare for the Homeless Project. The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and was announced Monday by Rep. Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara.
Under the Healthcare for the Homeless Project, nurse practitioners and physicians provide diagnoses and treatment for homeless people at various sites throughout the county. The services are free.
"During these challenging economic times, this grant funding could not have come at a better time," said Michael Powers, the healthcare agency's director.
