The Camarillo City Council awarded a contract Wednesday to renovate the Camarillo Ranch historic barn and discussed an agreement to expand parking.
The Camarillo Ranch is the historic 1892 home of Adolfo Camarillo, for whose family the city is named. The property was given to the city in 1997, and the city subsequently established the nonprofit Camarillo Ranch Foundation to preserve and maintain it.
The five council members voted unanimously to approve a $643,376 contract to Camarillo-based TASCO Construction to renovate the barn. The project includes building and fire code updates, lighting, waterproofing, bathrooms and a catering kitchen. Assistant City Manager Bruce Feng said the project would probably be completed in summer 2009.
The barn is expected to be used for a variety of functions, from weddings to city-organized events.
The council also discussed a parking easement agreement with Opus West, the developer of an office project next to the ranch. According to an arrangement worked out between the city staff and Opus West lawyers, it would cost the city $200 per day to use a parking lot adjacent to the ranch. The council requested some changes to the agreement and will consider approving it on Nov. 19.
A $30,000 contract with S.L. Leonard and Associates of Camarillo for project management services during the barn renovation was also approved, as were changes to the foundation's operating agreement and bylaws, which had not been modified in 10 years.
