$32 million OK'd for Hwy. 118 widening
The California Transportation Commission approved $32 million Thursday to complete the Highway 118 widening project currently under construction in Simi Valley between Tapo Canyon Road and the Los Angeles County line.
The funding was requested jointly by Caltrans and the Ventura County Transportation Commission.
Construction on the first phase of the project began in March 2007, although money for the second phase was not guaranteed. The previously approved funds provided enough money to add a new lane on the eastbound side. This newly approved money will allow Caltrans to complete a new lane on the westbound side of the highway.
The overall widening project included the widening of four bridges.
The CTC decision is contingent upon the state's approving the full amount of transportation funding called for in Propositions 42 and 1A.
