Artists Abound at Hollow Hills
Henry David Thoreau said "The world is but a canvas to our imaginations" and the students at Hollow Hills Fundamental School have used their imaginations to create a world that is both beautiful and inspiring.
Hollow Hills Fundamental School kicked off their Open House with a celebration of the arts by transforming their Multi Purpose room into a thing of beauty. The Art Show is an annual event devoted to showcasing the artistic talents of the students. The students put their hearts into their work and their talent and ideas are limitless. While the children are learning about famous artists, the ultimate result is one that inspires and excites each of them. Art gives each of us a voice to express ourselves without words. The students learn more about themselves and ways of expressing their interests, talents, hopes, and fears through art.
Through the Great Works of Art program (GWOA), over sixty volunteers share their talents and love for art with the students as they teach ten lessons about various artists from history. Students learn about the artist's life, some history from the time the artist lived, and about the style of painting and the media used. Students are inspired to create and use their imagination as they fill the canvas and create their own masterpiece.
With the education budget crisis, art and music have been taken away from many schools. At Hollow Hills, the PTA makes Art one of its major focuses by putting a budget aside each year to teach the students about the great Art Masters. Without the support of our Principal Aldo Calcagno, the many volunteers, teachers, and staff, programs like these would not be possible.
A warm thank you goes out to local musician Bil McCombe who entertained us with his musical talents as he played the guitar and sang songs that brought a smile to many faces as they joyfully sang along. His talent and giving spirit added to the magic of the event.
Melissa Rogers, Annelli Redlin, Lucy Brimer, Megan Switzler, and Chris Davis, members of the Royal High School Choir, kicked off the show with a memorable performance that everyone enjoyed. They are a group of very talented students who delighted us with their beautiful voices. What great examples for all of the students at Hollow Hills.
American Wholesale Nursery provided plants that helped in transforming the MPR into a showplace and we are thankful for their generous support.
May the childrens example and the words of Thoreau inspire you to create your own great masterpiece.
