Camarillo, Fillmore capture softball titles in T.O. tourney

Camarillo and Fillmore captured championships Monday in the Thousand Oaks Girls Softball Association Memorial Day Weekend Tournament.

Camarillo's 10-and-under Silver team defeated Hart, 13-9, to finish 5-0. Camarillo defeated Simi Valley, 9-3, in a semifinal game. Hart defeated Westlake-Agoura, 4-1, to advance to the championship game. Hart finished 4-1.

Camarillo players are Rylee Lauritson, Jalyn Barnett, Courtney Apodaca, Brianna Wise, Jordan Collison, Emma Berman, Natalie Glover, Sara Stroud, Grace Resnik, Emily Orosco, Celeste Ekman and Samantha Casserly. Coaches are Gary Lauritson, Roger Apodaca, Greg Glover and Frank Orosco. Jeff Berman is the manager.

Fillmore defeated Sylmar, 6-0, in the 12-and-under Silver championship game. Fillmore ended 4-1, losing a pool-play game to Simi Valley, 10-7.

Sylmar defeated Simi Valley, 1, in a semifinal game and Fillmore earned a 7-0 win over Westlake-Agoura to reach the title game.

Northridge celebrated four championships and Los Alamitos notched three crowns in the 17th annual tournament.

Northridge edged Los Alamitos, 9-8, for the 12-and-under Gold title. Northridge defeated Simi Valley, 6-1, in a semifinal game. Los Alamitos topped Westlake-Agoura, 13-6, in the other semifinal game.

Northridge prevailed over Westlake-Agoura, 7-5, for the 12-and-under Bronze championship. In semifinal action, Northridge defeated Sylmar, 9-6. The two teams battled to a 10-10 tie in pool play and both were 1-1-1. Westlake-Agoura defeated Simi Valley, 7-2, in a semifinal game. Simi Valley had beaten Westlake-Agoura, 10-4, in pool play.

In the 10-and-under Bronze Division, Northridge downed Simi Valley, 8-0, to finish unbeaten infive games. Northridge rolled past Camarillo, 11-0, in a semifinal game. Simi Valley edged Westlake-Agoura, 7-5, in the other semifinal game.

Fillmore won four straight games in the 8-and-under Silver Division, only to lose to Northridge, 5-2, for the championship. Northridge (5-0) edged Hart, 3-1, in a semifinal. Fillmore defeated Torrance, 7-0, to reach the championship game. In pool play, Fillmore defeated Simi Valley Silver, 6-5, Westlake-Agoura Bronze, 9-4, and Thousand Oaks, 9-0.

Los Alamitos reeled off five straight wins to capture the 14-and-under Gold Division. Los Alamitos handed Simi Valley a 9-0 loss in the championship game. In semifinal play, Simi Valley edged Westlake-Agoura, 5-4, and Los Alamitos routed Thousand Oaks, 13-1. Simi Valley finished 4-1 and Thousand Oaks ended 2-2.

The 10-and-under Los Alamitos Gold team toppled Hart, 11-2, for the championship. Los Alamitos (5-0) defeated Simi Valley, 6-2, in a semifinal game. Hart defeated Santa Monica, 5-2, to reach the final game. Hart and Simi Valley each finished 4-1.

Los Alamitos defeated Simi Valley, 6-0, in the 8-and-under Gold title game. Los Alamitos finished 5-0. Simi Valley (3-2) defeated Northridge, 3-0, in a semifinal game. Los Alamitos eked out a 1-0 semifinal win over Hart (2-2).

Camarillo tournament: The Camarillo Girls Softball Association will host a tournament starting today and running through Sunday evening. Games will be played at Mission Oaks Park, Freedom Park, Monte Vista Intermediate School and Camarillo High.

The tournament will feature 104 teams from 20 softball associations from Poway to Goleta.

Ventura College camp: Ventura College and softball coach Susan Johnson will host the annual camp. General skills camps are June 23-26 (8 a.m. to noon) and July 14-17 (1 to 5 p.m.) for all ages. Cost is $100. The Total Pitcher is a specialty camp held June 23-26. Beginners and intermediates are welcome to The Total Pitcher, which will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost for The Total Pitcher is $60.
