Local girls lead zone team to silver
Ventura's Alexis Lee and Alisa Argend along with Agoura's Casey Clark helped the California Coastal Zone team to a second-place finish in the 18-and-under tournament in Orange County.
The Coastal Zone team defeated Southern Central Zone (Houston), 25-5, and then lost to the Southern Pacific Zone B team, 9-8, featuring players from Orange and Riverside counties. In Game 3, Coastal defeated Central California, 7-2.
On Sunday, the local team defeated Southern Pacific Zone B, 6-2, and in the championship, Coastal Zone lost to Southern Pacific A, 9-7. Southern Pacific B earned the bronze medal.
Royal's Casey Creek did not play in the tournament because of a broken hand from a recent Santa Barbara tournament. Several Santa Barbara-area girls played well, while Kiley Neushel did not play because she was automatically placed on the national team.
Lee and Sami Hill of Dos Pueblos earned spots on the national team from Monday's tryouts.
