Suspect flees from police, arrested

An Oxnard man was arrested Tuesday in Ventura on suspicion of resisting officers and possessing a stolen vehicle, police said.

Pedro Fernandez, 27, was stopped about 4 p.m. for a traffic violation near East Harbor Boulevard and California Street, according to a statement from the Ventura Police Department.

Fernandez ran from the vehicle and the officer ran after him and called for backup, police said. Fernandez was taken into custody near East Front Street and South Ash Street.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle Fernandez was driving was stolen in Oxnard, police said. He was booked into Ventura County Jail.

That was probably the same creep trying to run me off the road yesterday. Thanks VPD! They were waiting for him, apparently, and they reacted quickly to his aggressive tailgating. It was like a NASCAR event complete with drafting.

Great work to Ventura Police! Thank you for the return of a stolen vehicle and the capture of yet another crook. 27 is just a little too old for a joy-ride. Hope he gets the book thrown at him.

West_to_East: Um, I think what you read from Pogmothoin was called sarcasm. It's something that is quite prevalent here in the comment section of the Star.

"Lol this is too funny. Cops pulled over a vehicle that they didn't even no was stolen, until further investigation?"

how is that funny? criminals are not the brightest people on the planet. Here's a great idea. lets steal a car, and then run red lights and break other traffic laws so the police will notice us. Criminals are idiots, plain and simple.

I don't know how good his heart is,(or his lungs and legs) he got caught by a cop in a foot chase.

I don't think it's fair because the police have computers they can use to look up if it's stolen. What did Pedro have? How could he have known?
