Clerk bound, gagged, robbed at gas station

Two robbers dressed in black tied up a Ventura gas station clerk and ransacked the business early Tuesday, police said.

The female clerk was working alone at the Chevron station at 9460 Telephone Road when the two robbers entered the business about 6:30 a.m. One of them pressed an object she believed was a gun into her back, and then they gagged her and tied her to a pole near the office, Ventura police said.

The two men opened drawers and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business. A customer found the clerk about 30 minutes later when he walked into the gas station, heard moaning noises and went looking for an employee, police Sgt. Jack Richards said. The clerk was not injured.

"Take-over" robberies of this kind are unusual in Ventura, Richards said. "Most crooks want to get in and out right away," he said.

Police asked anyone with information about the crime to call Ventura police at 339-4394 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 385-TALK. Tipsters who provide Crime Stoppers with information leading to an arrest could receive a reward of up to $1,000.

I hope the clerk is all right, what a terrible experience! People should never have to work alone, especially at gas stations and convenience stores.

"take-over robberies are rare..." I bet!- especially at 6:30 am--aren't LOTS of people stopping in for coffee/ gas on their way to work?

Hopefully the lady will be OK (mentally), but you always have to wonder about "inside jobs"--my ex was involved with guys who would allow themselves to be beaten up and their cash box stolen by friends, and they would then split the takings--("one of them pressed an object she believed was a gun into her back", hmmmm.....)

btw: I've worked a LOT of convenience stores--graveyards mostly, but never heard of many robberies @ 6:30 am...
