City anniversary inspires summer film festival

As part of Moorpark's 25th anniversary celebration, the city will host "1983 Summer Film Festival."

To mark the year the city incorporated, blockbuster 1983 movies will be shown every third Saturday during the summer, with a special double feature in July.

The festival kicks off June 21 with "Mr. Mom" starring Michael Keaton and Teri Garr. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the movie begins at 8 p.m. at High Street Arts Center, 45 E. High St.

"Never Say Never Again," starring Sean Connery, will be shown July 19, followed by the most recent Bond thriller "Casino Royale," starring Daniel Craig. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the first film at 6:30 p.m., and the second at 8:30 p.m. at the Arts Center. Show up dressed in 1983 attire or as your favorite Bond character to be entered into a raffle for prizes.

The final movie Aug. 16 is "War Games" starring Matthew Broderick as a young computer whiz who accidentally accesses a computer with complete control over the U.S. nuclear arsenal. The show is at 8 p.m. at Arroyo Vista Park, 4550 Tierra Rejada Road.

The movies are free and sponsored by Moorpark, Anderson Rubbish Disposal and Waste Management and distributed by MGM Motion Pictures.
