Two arrested on burglary, drug counts
Detectives arrested two men Thursday morning after conducting a search in El Rio in connection with an investigation into a recent home burglary, authorities said.
Detectives arrested Jerediah Mata, 19, of El Rio, on suspicion of residential burglary and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Jorge Flores, 21, of Oxnard was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Authorities said both men are documented gang members.
The home search, conducted about 10:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Walnut Drive, stemmed from a burglary in which a gun was stolen, according to a statement from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
A gun recovered in the search was unrelated to the burglary, but authorities said they are investigating the weapon, which was illegally altered by having its serial number removed.

Oh and I remember some people saying that gang members were good people.... yeah right! They had good intentions breaking into a residence... I am sure they were there to feed the homeowner's dog and drop off the mail.

This story is lacking information. First, when was the burglary? Was it in Port Hueneme, because they search a home in El Rio?? Were they detectives only after these two boys because of the stolen gun, which they didn't find? Also documented gang memeber? From which street gang?
Pogmothoin-good observation on your part.

latina79, it's a breaking story... also it is in the hands of the police investigators.. it takes some time to sort through crimes and collect evidence. I am sure that all of the details of the case will not be released to the public for reasons of contamination of trial evidence and personal privacy laws. Become a cop if you wanna be nosey rosey.

I can definitely guarantee you one thing...
A gun with the serial number removed is NOT intended for only the use of self defense....throw the book at these loser thieves!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA gypsygirl I am laughing at you...
I bet you are going to say that Jorge and Jerediah are good men that would never hurt anybody...
Well right now Jerediah is being charged with Felony First Degree Residential Burglary and UI of a controlled substance.
This past March he was arrested and charged with evading an officer and possession of marijuana while driving, and in March of 2003 he was convicted of driving without a license at the fresh young age of 14.
Both are DOCUMENTED gang members and while the article doesn't state specifically who, ONE of them was in possession of a gun WITH THE SERIAL NUMBER REMOVED....gypsygirl, if you dont know WHY someone would remove the serial number from a gun, then you must be pretty stupid and I pray that you never have to find out the HARD WAY on the street what someone would want to do with a "hot gun."

Ooops I forgot to list Jorge's offenses:
September 2007: Convicted of UI of a controlled substance and possession of < an ounce of marijuana
November of 2007: Convicted of giving false info to a police officer

All thatI'm saying is you spend all your time bashing on people on this website, when you have no idea if the statements are true, or updated. Nobody's perfect and I do see that yes, he did do something wrong, but GET A LIFE PEOPLE. With the exception of some of these articles (including this one), alot of these people in these articles aren't even gang members and by you automatically associating them with gangs, bashing them and labeling them troublemakers, you are hurting their reputation. You dont know what happened, you dont know who is reading this stuff, and you dont know what kind of damage you are doing. If oxnard and Ventura county is filled with soooooo many gangsters, why dont you either do something about it, or just leave already. Theres no point bashing somebody you dont even know. Something could happen to you one day, and when it ends up in the paper people are going to assume numerous things about you, just by reading these comments, whether you are in the wrong or not. So like i said, GET A LIFE AND SHUT UP. You're not helping any by bashing on people in your community.

Oh yes, it's the posters here who hurt their reputations. Right...
Now I always thought it was the illegal activities that damaged the reputations.
gypsygirl...you need to let go. Public forums like this are part of life. If you don't like what is posted you are free to disagree. Or you don't have to read the posts at all.

I know the Mata sisters personaly since I was 5.. they are good kids. their parents werent always there for them which is not their flaut. Growing up like that makes life much harder to understand. Janelle is a good person just under the worng influence. Dont go judging people unless you know them personally. Janelle has the BIGGEST heart ever.... LOVE YOU Janelle.. Things might be tough right now but you will surive ... And I will always have your back through thick and thin!!!!

gypsygirl... if you are in the newpaper for a crime you are open to public forum and ridicule. Any as to your point about the gangs and we should leave... why don't these idiots grow up and be contributing players in society rather than being a tax burden on us non gang members! Oh and if you don't like the comments on here.. don't read them.

I am sure that we will see thisiswhatshesaid's real name in the news sometime very soon right next to the Mata's families names!

Oh gosh, here we go again with the "their parents weren't always there for them" argument...give it a rest already!
My parents got divorced when I was 9, my sisters were 8 and 6. My mom was a single mom and we came home from school EVERY DAY to an empty house because she was at work. I won't even go into our life BEFORE they wised up and got a divorce. We all turned out just fine, have good careers, are responsible, don't drive around shooting and people or stealing their stuff.
Point being, your life is what you make it. And at their ages I find it hard to believe that the Mata kids don't know the difference between right and wrong. They have free will and have used it to make bad choices.
If they're smart they'll use these opportunities to get their sh*t together and start living productive lives. Being arrested could well turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to them.

Therefore, with that being said, if you two (thisiswhatshesaid & gypsygirl), do not like what we, commenters want to say, I strongly suggest this: go up to the top left hand side of this page, and where it says "log out", simply click there.
That'll take care of your personal problem and you'll avoid the rest of us from having to read your nonsense comments.

Since you seem to know the Mata family and their crimminal history record, that could possibly say some about yourself.
Secondly, freedom of speech: we all have a right to voice our thoughts; you might agree or not, but who cares, it's something you apparently don't and won't understand. You cannot tell people to "SHUT UP" and get a life, when you are spending your time behind a monitor typing away your senseless two cents.
"GET A LIFE"...are you serious? You keep repeating this phrase as if you have a LIFE of your own.
Sweetie, you can bet your life is nowhere near my "LIFE".

Jerediah? Is that a contraction of Jeremiah and Jedediah? Why didn't his parents just name him Joe, or Sam?

Gangsters need to be pressed into service, all individual markings removed and placed into a military custody type of situation. They can be taught a skill or even earn an education while on a 8 year stint for Uncle Sam measuring ice thickness in Nome.

Ms California,
Have you ever been out there with gangs do you know any one of them. All your comments regarding gangs I do not think you know a thing or two about there lifes where they come from and how they were brought up.
I rather have them as my protectors than cops. I thing I do not do is call the cops deal with the cops, they are not trusted......

carolina1369?
What is there to know about gangs? That they violate the law, have their own set of rules that glorify criminal activity, commit drive-by shootings, claim territory that doesn't belong to them, victimize the community, recruit young teens, go to jail, tattoo their bodies with numbers and ridiculous gang names?
Your comparison between Police and gangs says a lot about your character.

it amazes me how people are so short sighted and have brains like dinosaurs . here they jump to conclusions by simply reading this article judging everyone including the parents of these guys, guess they feel almighty with the right to criticize people as if they themselves are perfect i happen to know that in ventura county so many people get arrested and charged with numerous criminal counts but that doesn't neccesarily means they are guilty in fact many are innocent so if they are guilty let them go to trial and evidence will speak for itself and if you perfect people get the chance to be a juror then you can judge and open your big mouths and determine if these two are really in fact criminals

Sorry uknowomyname, "Being under the influence of a controlled substance", recovery of a "gun with altered serial number" and "documented gang members".....
All pretty clear cut to me....therefore called
CRIMINALS.

Your gangster grammar is showing. It amazes me that people can type on a keyboard and use no grammar whatsoever. "Documented gang members" is all I need to know. They should be wiped out by the hand of God like the Jews of old in my opinion; however, inducting them into a military special service to learn respect for authority and learn a skill to save their lives and the lives and property of innocents would be preferable. Feral people should be purged, and their parents sterilized.

What the hell is gangster grammer. If you people actually read what people say and stop just jumping to conclusions and assuming that these articles are correct you might realize that the paper is looking for a hot story and don't give a damn about who or what they destroy. This guy at my church was arrested for murder and found guilty but a year later they realized they had the wrong guy the whole time and released him. Now tell me how that happends and DO YOU IMAGINE THE HEAT HE RECIEVED AND THEN THEY REALIZE THEY HAD THE WRONG GUY THE WHOLE TIME. But you know a sorry JUSTIFIES THAT RIGHT. Our Bad, we just tried to get another scumbag off the street and we messed up and got a good church going man. Were sorry we ruined your reputation and character, had a bunch of people judge you and leave discusting comments about you on our mistake. You understand right people make mistakes.
Politics, Government and People don't understand. There are lots of ways to know the truth without assuming someone did something. We live ONCE, you have one LIFE and one REPUTATION. I ask one favor, get your facts right before you start to judge; and just before you do that. Look in the mirror and think if your in a position to even judge another before you judge yourself.

OY VEY!!!
This is unbelievable...
-A family full of gang issues, gets themselves into trouble time and time again which lands their names in the paper and their fellow gang members jump on and try to say that they are good people! COME ON!
Here are my thoughts: If you have the time to be sitting at your computer, reading and responding to this kind of news, why not get an online education FOR REAL! There are tons of opportunities for you out there. Do something other than try to protect the very people that might end up turning on you if you piss them off!!
The fact remains that the gangs are an issue. We as a society need to do something about it. AND FAST.
Why not put together a large group of strong community members, educate them on how to use a firearm and have them take over the streets. I would rather my tax dollars go to that!
Additionally, I think that the city needs to find the actual homeowners who are renting their homes to these people and offer to buy them out...move out the trash and move in the group that has been formed to protect the streets. Also, keep tabs on the trash that they moved out and make it impossible for them to gather in another community..spread them out in different counties.
