Environmental group files suit against Coastal Commission
An environmental group opposed to the planned boating center at Channel Islands Harbor filed suit Thursday against the California Coastal Commission over its approval of the boating center last month.
It's the second time that the group, Habitat for Hollywood Beach, has sued the Coastal Commission to stop the boating center.
The commission first approved the project in 2005, and that approval was overturned in court when Habitat for Hollywood Beach sued. The judge's order sent the matter back to the Coastal Commission, which approved the project again last month.
In its latest lawsuit, Habitat for Hollywood Beach argues that the commission did not follow the judge's orders to reconsider the boating center and take into account a wider range of alternatives and a deeper analysis of environmental impacts.
"They've just approved the same project they approved before," said Frank Angel, Habitat for Hollywood Beach's attorney. "The court clearly told them to do more than just glance at alternatives."

Maybe the best idea for a "Habitat" at Hollywood Beach would be to get a great big bulldozer to scrape all the houses off the beach, then let the dunes reclaim the vacant land. Bet a lot birds would nest there then.

It's time to scrap this disaster. How many more millions of taxpayer money is the County willing to spend on this ill conceived monstrosity called a "boating center"? Time to bail!
