Motive still unknown in shooting that injured 2 teens
Authorities are still working today to determine what motivated a shooting that injured two teens in Nyeland Acres this week.
The boys, aged 16 and 15, were playing basketball in front of a house in the 3400 block of Orange Drive shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday when the shooting occurred, said Capt. Ross Bonfiglio, spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
A dark colored vehicle stopped in the middle of Orange Drive and a man dressed in black got out and fired two rounds from a shotgun at the boys, investigators determined. The shooter then got back in the vehicle and drove away.
The shooting victims were driven by their parents to St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard with non-life threatening injuries.
Both had multiple wounds from shotgun pellets, but their injuries were "relatively minor," Bonfiglio said.
