Ultralight craft lands on walkway; no one is hurt
An ultralight aircraft made an emergency landing Sunday evening on a pedestrian walkway in Port Hueneme, but no one was injured, authorities said.
The single-engine ultralight landed safely at 5:54 p.m. in the 200 block of East Surfside Drive, on part of the city's waterfront promenade that opened in March, police said.
Pilot Julio Batista of Los Angeles told police he began his flight in Ventura and landed on the pedestrian walkway after experiencing engine failure, authorities said.
About 20 to 30 people were walking on the promenade at the time of the landing, Port Hueneme police Sgt. Peter Freiberg said, but no injuries were reported.
