Motorcyclist hurt during race in forest
A 45-year-old man was airlifted to a hospital Sunday afternoon after he crashed his motorcycle during a race in Los Padres National Forest, authorities said.
John Anderson of Cedar Pines Park was participating in the Ventura County Motorcycle Club's Hungry Valley Qualifier race about 12:30 p.m. Sunday when he crashed on the Tejon Trail more than two miles from the main road, sheriff's Senior Deputy Shane Matthews said. Anderson could not ride out of the area, so a friend rode to a spot where he could get cell phone reception and called 911.
A helicopter crew from the sheriff's air unit responded, hoisted Anderson into the helicopter and took him to a nearby campground.
He was then taken by ambulance to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia for treatment of moderate injuries, Matthews said.
