Ventura man killed in motorcycle crash identified
Authorities have identified a Ventura man who was killed in a solo motorcycle crash north of Ojai Sunday afternoon.
The motorcyclist was Jack Dunn, 62, said Armando Chavez, a senior deputy Ventura County medical examiner.
Dunn was thrown from his motorcycle when he swerved onto the dirt shoulder of Highway 33 just north of Sespe Creek, sideswiped a metal guardrail, lost control and hit a pothole, according to a prepared statement from the California Highway Patrol.
Though he was wearing a helmet, Dunn suffered severe head trauma when he tumbled 50 feet down a steep rock embankment, according to the CHP. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:42 p.m.
It was not immediately clear why Dunn swerved onto the dirt shoulder.

xrtech24,
If you have ever been up the 33 on a weekend, in the afternoon especially, you would know that there is a ton of traffic. Could have just as easliy drifted over the double-yellow and struck an on-coming vehicle. It is unfortunate that you feel the need to spread your prejudices about motorcyclists when you are obviously clueless.

There seems to have been alot of motorcycle involved accidents lately. Are the roads dangerous because of potholes and debris? I also wonder if he wouldn't have gone down the embankment if he would have survived the crash?

Wear full faced helmets, gloves, pants and a jacket!

NO t-shirts
Speed safely.

Elvis is a lucky man to be singing with Jack now. He will be missed by so many, mostly his family that he loves so much. Jack leaves us all with a song in our hearts. Happy Trails...Dr. Dunn

Sad, I am sure he loved riding and lived his life to its fullest. They always take the good ones it seems, while the bad seeds continue to walk this planet.
bugmenot, dont forget BOOTS!
I see people riding with flip flops, tennies, tank tops....the list goes on!
OMG, Isaw someone riding yesterday with what looked like there entire life attached to there bike. I am sure if an officer saw that, the person would have been stopped. They had a HUGE bag of recycling also hangin off the side..ay yi yi

My family and I were further up the road on Sunday and heard & saw the SAR chopper above us, then heard from another family that this crash had taken place. Seeing the aftermath was sad and put a damper on the day. God be with the family and friends of the rider. A LOT of people were riding motorcycles up there, as the weather was beautiful.
Know that our prayers are with the family and friends of this rider!
I hope too that this cautions people to drive WAY more carefully (and hopefully slower, as ther were many people riding very fast up the canyon that day - almost all in full gear w/ armour, helmets, etc.) on Hwy 33, as one missed turn can mean a fatality up there, especially when there are a lot of people on the road, beautiful weather (sun in eyes) and other distractions.
We've lost too many people on this road and need to be cautious while driving, walking, etc. there! I saw a VERY young child nearly fall down a cliff about the same time this accident happened. PLEASE keep a hand-hold on kids at ALL times either near the roadway or near long drop-offs & remember the weather is getting nicer, so many people are out there that may not have the experience that they once did, so although you might be driving fine, someone else may not be, or may have a child (or car or motorcycle or whatever) where they shouldn't be!
We love our SAR teams, but I'd be happy if the ONLY calls they had to go out on were training calls!
Let's ALL try to drive safer, hike safer, etc. on & around the 33 so we can ALL go home safely at the end of a beautiful day & share it for years to come!

I will miss Jack. He was a very kind man with a very calming heart. I always liked to talk to him when I worked on his landlords home or saw him out on the town of Ojai and ventura. He always road safely from what I knew and these accidental misfortunes always leave my heart sadened. He is one and few of those types of people that you always want to talk to and see often. He was full of knowledge and just good humored. I dropped by this am and meet his daughters for the first time and I can only imagine what sorrow they are going through right now. Be strong Jaclyn Dunn!! I will truly miss your dad. He will always be in my heart and on my mind.

Hi, i was one of the guys at the scene, Dr. Dunn was coming into a hot left turn and from my understanding his front tire was on flat, he loss control of the bike and went onto the dirt road, where he hit the Guardrail and was ejected from his bike, his friends told me he was a great guy and a great rider, so that could happen to any of us, make sure you check your tires before riding the Canyons! He will be sadly missed by his Daughter, who i heard they were very close! I was there with DR. Dunn before he pass away, RIP, Mr. Dunn, your in a better place now, i will keep you in my prayers, my riding brother!

Also, when DR. Dunn was rejected from his bike, he would have probably lived, if he didn't go over the guardrail, it was a step long fall where his head hit the rocks, thats where the trama came from, there was also a pot hole in the dirt area by the guardrail, not the road, i'm thinking when he hit the pot hole, thats what ejected him from his bike, not the guardrail. I would like to thank all people in there cars, that stop and help, Mr. Dunn, i really appreciate you guys helping out a fellow biker, soon as i saw Mr. Dunn crashed in my left rear view mirror, i quickly turned around after the good summarians in there cars past by me. I didn't know mr. Dunn but if i see anybody involved in a accident, i will always help them, no matter if there are on a bike or a car, its the right thing to do! I can't see anybody leaving someone, when they need your help, god bless, the people in the cars that help Mr. Dunn, they were already down the mountain helping and comforting him when i arrived back at the scene!

Oh, my aching heart.
Jack was there the first time I took the backseat on my honey's Road Glide, the first time I rode my own, the first time I crashed my own, first long road trip to a bike rally, first time up Hwy 33...he will forever be part of my riding passion but few will ever have the passion for riding that he did.
Deepest sympathy for both immediate and extended family.

Jack was the "best of the best". As a rider, he was one of the few that I rode side by side with and did for thousands of thousands of miles.
As a man, Jack devoted his life to helping others. He was one of a kind.
I just don't understand what could have happened that tragic afternoon. Jack was a terrific rider.
My heart goes out to Jacquline, Kimberly and Marsha... and extended family members.
Clyde is helping organize a benefit ride for Jack. It is tenatively scheduled for (Sunday)29 of June.

Dr. Jack Dunn,
A huge void will be felt by those who had the good fortune to have met you. You will always be that genuine, one of a kind. Your absence will especially be felt every time I fire up my Harley.
When I went to bed Sunday night, I wanted to believe that this could be one of your infamous jokes. The next morning I woke up and found myself really upset with you. Am trying to get through the steps of acceptance but that may never happen.
God, we miss you.

Jack and I rode many miles together over our 11 year friendship. Jack was always the jokester and his wit and wry sense of humor never waned. He was a very competent rider, and will be missed by all of us who knew him. To Marsha, Jaclyn, Jusstin, Kimberly and family, my heart goes out to all of you.
We miss you, brother. Ride on, Dr Jack

Hello all...
Still in shock here. I just saw Jack last week and we talked about life and death believe it or not. I was having a tough time at work and, as usual, he cured my migraine and sat me down for some good counsel. What a man! What a friend! I asked him how he always stayed in a good mood all of the time. He told me life was short and one never knew when time would be up so it was best to live each day to the fullest...fully present...fully awake...fully alive. We made plans to do a ride together when my bike was up. I'll take a raincheck on that ride Jack, angels are in line first. You are truly missed over here...I'm sure it's great over there. Peace and blessings to friends and family, especially his beloved girls. Please keep us all informed as to the ride, I wouldn't miss it for anything. Will there be any other memorial? I haven't seen a notice in the paper.
Big Love all...Val

How can we accept the loss of Jack? He was such a character. A perfect blend of fun, friendship, sarcasm, sensitivity, rebellion, wit and warmth. Jack was a great listener and gifted healer. His passion and commitment to family, friends, alphabiotics, alternative health, politics, Harleys, Elvis and life was unsurpassed. We will miss our dear friend. In his honor, we must move forward and live life to the fullest because that is what he would want us to do. Jack's spirit is with us always.
My deepest sympathy to Kimberly, Jaclyn, Marsha and extended family.
