Small fire injures 2 at Strawberry Festival
Slide show
California Strawberry Festival>>Two volunteers working at a mobile corn rotisserie at the California Strawberry Festival suffered burns on Saturday, according to Oxnard Fire Capt. Craig Freeman.
The two victims, a 24-year-old woman and a 15-year-old Channel Islands High School student, suffered first- and second-degree burns, said Freeman, who gave first aid at the booth operated by the Rotary Club of Oxnard.
The accident happened about 1 p.m.
The woman and teenage boy were working at the cooker when a malfunction resulted in a small flash fire, Freeman said. The fire was confined to the unit and didn't spread, according to Freeman.
In the past eight years, there have been no similar incidents with the rotisserie, said Frank Sullivan, a Rotary volunteer.
No further information was available Saturday.
