Eaglets force closing of Boone forest trail
WINCHESTER — A trail through Daniel Boone National Forest has been closed to protect a new bald eagle nest that's housing two eaglets.
U.S. Forest Service officials say Buckskin Run Trail will remain closed until July 1 to give the young eagles time to develop. The closure covers about an acre of land and one acre of water.
The bald eagle is no longer federally listed as endangered, but the species continues to be protected under federal and state laws.
In Kentucky, the bald eagle is listed as threatened and protected under state regulations.
