Colleges of Law reaccredited
The Santa Barbara and Ventura Colleges of Law have received a five-year reaccreditation.
The reaccreditation was granted after a team of inspectors visited the college's two campuses for several days in November 2007.
In its report, the team praised the school for its quality of instruction, facilities and innovation.
The colleges, which have about 240 students, offer evening classes leading to a law degree.
VENTURA COUNTY
Air pollution plan imposes strict rules
The Ventura County Air Pollution Control District this week adopted a new plan to improve air quality in the county by instituting more stringent rules.
Though the largest of the required changes will come from the state's cracking down on automotive emissions, the county is doing its part by limiting the amount of pollution from industries.
Companies that paint lawn furniture or have leaking underground tanks are now subject to more strict rules limiting the amount of smog-creating compounds that seep into the air, said district Executive Director Mike Villegas. Later this year, the roughly 100 auto-body shops that paint cars will also fall under new rules.
The new rules will help lower the amount of smog-producing compounds by about 0.4 tons per day. The larger goal, including state measures, is to reduce pollution from current levels of 117 tons a day to 108 tons a day by 2012.
