Crowning Glory awards five titles in annual beauty pageant

Crowning Glory Productions held its third annual beauty pageant April 19 at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center. Nineteen contestants vied for the five titles awarded that evening.

The following contestants were crowned:

n Miss Ventura County International 2009 is Doris Kochan, who attends Marymount College. Her platform is the awareness and prevention of the AIDS/HIV epidemic.

n Miss Gold Coast International 2009 is Beth Block-Weiss of Calabasas. Her platform is the Pet Orphans Foundation of Southern California.

n Miss Teen Ventura County International 2009 is Katie Karp of Simi Valley. Her platform is Junior Olympics.

n Miss Teen Gold Coast International 2009 is Allison Soto of Thousand Oaks. Her platform is Girls Inc.

n Junior Miss Ventura County International 2009 is Julia Valenzuela of Fillmore. Her platform is Girl Scouts of America.

All the winners will vie for Miss California International, Miss Teen California International and Junior Miss California in August in Palm Springs.

The runners-up in the following categories were:

n Teen: First runner-up was Dedria Brunett of Camarillo and second runner-up was Lace Granatelli of Moorpark.

n Miss: First runner-up was Allison Bowman of Moorpark and second runner-up was Meghan Lopez of Moorpark.

Special awards were given for the following:

n Junior Miss: Fun Fashion and Evening Gown winner was Julia Valenzuela and People's Choice went to Shania Brenner.

n Teen: Fitness, Allison Soto; Fun Fashion, Allison Soto and Katie Karp tied; Evening Gown, Katie Karp; Community Service — Kelli Scarangello; and People's Choice, Lace Granatelli.

n Miss: Fitness, Fun Fashion and Evening Gown went to Doris Kochan; Community Service, Meghan Lopez; and People's Choice, Tiffany Lane.

The International Pageant System strongly supports community service, and all the winners will be available throughout the coming year to help the community.
