Executive replacement named in Simi Valley

Simi Valley announced Thursday the appointment of Peter Lyons as the director of the environmental services department.

Lyons replaces Al Boughey who retired recently after 12 years of service.

Lyons has worked with the city for nine years as the department's deputy director/city planner.

The environmental services department oversees three divisions — planning, housing and special projects and building and safety.

Lyons assisted with the development of several large projects, including the Simi Valley Town Center, the Big Sky/Sand Canyon Development and the El Paseo Simi Project. He also managed an extensive update of the city's zoning and development code enforcement and is currently managing an update to the city's general plan.

Lyons worked with the city of Rosemead, where he served as the director of planning, housing and code enforcement. He worked in the city of La Puente and Washington County, Ore., before that.

He holds an MBA from the American Graduate School of International Business Management and a bachelor of science degree in urban studies from the University of Oregon.

"Peter has worked well with the City Council and the Planning Commission for a number of years and he has the confidence of the city's decision-makers, the development community and the departmental staff," said City Manager Mike Sedell in a statement.

Sedell noted that Paul Drury, currently a principal planner, will assume the role of deputy director/city planner in an acting capacity.
