Two men block man's car, hit him and take wallet
A Fillmore man was robbed Tuesday night by two men who blocked his car with another vehicle, authorities said.
The 23-year-old victim was sitting in his car near Fourth and B streets in Fillmore about 7:30 p.m. when two men in a truck parked in front of him, blocking him from driving away, sheriff's Capt. Patti Salas said.
One robber got out of the truck, made reference to a local street gang and punched the victim in the head several times, Salas said. Meanwhile, the other man went into the car and took the victim's wallet.
The robbers then drove away in the truck. The victim reported the incident several hours later, authorities said.
Anyone with information about the incident may anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 494-TALK.

A bit strange that he didn't report it until several hours later. Guess he might have needed that time to sober up and invent a plausible story. Hmmmm...Maybe he should have taken some more time!

What did the two men look like?
What kind of truck was it?
What color was the truck?
What did the police report say?
"Anyone with information about the incident..."How about the victim?

The Fillmore Gazette has the unedited story:
On May 13th, 2008, at approximately 07:30 PM, the victim was stopped in his vehicle in the area of Fourth Street and B Street, in Fillmore. The suspect vehicle, a white newer Chevrolet Avalanche, with paper plates, pulled in front of the victim’s vehicle blocking its exit. Two suspects exited their vehicle and confronted the victim, who was still seated in his vehicle. One of the suspects made reference to a local street gang and punched the victim on his face and head several times. The second suspect entered the passenger side of the vehicle and took the victim’s property. Both suspects fled the area in the Chevrolet Avalanche.
The victim reported the crime several hours later from his residence. The victim was treated and released by AMR for contusions and swelling to his face and forehead as a result of the crime.

I think the Star needs to quit being politically correct and report the real news. Really is it no wonder that people don't get the newspaper anymore?
This newspaper sucks.

It sounds as if the community is not doing enough. Criminals gain power through fear. If the community displays fear by not reporting suspicious or criminal activity, then that community is setting the foundation for crime to flourish. It also sounds as if the community may not be aware as to what can be done. They can do the following:
1. call the police anonymously
2. tell the police they are willing to give information but do not want anyone in uniform coming to their home.
3. officially request extra patrol in their area (the more people do this then the more concrete evidence there is to fortify the need for this extra patrol)
4. Contact the mayor (preferably in writing so there is evidence) and state that you are a tax payer (I usually cite I pay over $4,000 in property taxes yearly) and state that you mandate something be done about crime in your area. Insist the mayor get back to you in writing outlining his/her plan of action.
5. Call in every infraction regardless of how minor it is: For example, graffiti is typically thought to be "minor"; yet, statistically areas with graffiti are typically areas where major crime can flourish.
P.S.
Before some of you comment, please note: I grew up in Fillmore, graduated from Fillmore high about 12 years ago, and I own property there. It is quite disconcerting that some of you use sarcasm and irrelevant comments as a lame attempt to strengthen an already weak argument.
